Making Butterfly Wings

Nancy
[....]

Now down to the dance. My daughter is 17 years old and is doing a lyrical-modern type dance for a regional competition, and if she wins, she will go on to the national competition.

The wings will be attached at the side seams of a leotard from the hip up through the underarm seam over to the wrist. The fabric should be eye-catching and the flow of the fabric is part of the dance. I bought some fabric at Hancocks that is transparent. It is colorful but not eye-catching.

I thought about putting glitter on the fabric but I am afraid it will stiffen the fabric, and I don't know if the glitter will stay on the fabric. I don't think it would be appreciated to have bits of glitter on the stage. I have also thought about putting sequins on the fabric, but again, I don't know if that will affect the flowiness of the fabric or even if the light will reflect off the sequins that much.

I forgot to tell you I am from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area and have looked everywhere for fabric. In the smaller shops, I have to order the fabric and then buy at least 10 yards of fabric. That is ridiculous. I also live about 1 hour from New Orleans, but I have no idea where to shop for such fabric. I can't even find a phone book in New Orleans. That is why I am looking for a catalog to purchase the fabric.

If you have any thoughts please let me know. Even if you can't help, it's great fun talking (writing) with new people. Thanks so much.

Guild Gentles:
Someone else looking for some information. Can any of you help with fabric decoration ideas? I'm thinking that she might want to go with some chiffon and fabric paint greatly diluted so as not to stiffen the material. Some of the fabric paints come with glitter in them, and I haven't found the glitter coming off my kimono work. Also, some silk dye might work, but I haven't worked with silk dye. Have any of you?
