Beaded decoration is one of the earliest forms of embellishing material with beads made of stone, wood, and amber primarily on skins and leather in prehistory and moving onto decorating all kinds of woven fabrics. In the Victorian age, beads were sewn onto punched paper with pre-printed designs, as well as cross-stitch types of fabrics. Beads of all kinds today are applied onto every type of fabric, plastic, leather, and latex.

This discussion begins with an explanation of materials and supplies, although the purpose of each project and the subsequent design requirements should be considered when actually planning a project in the initial stages.
