Masquerades are events typically held at science fiction and fantasy, anime, media-oriented such as Star Trek, Star Wars, or Firefly, and "furry" conventions. They are an opportunity to show off and compete a costume that you have created to an appreciative audience ranging from a couple hundred at a small convention to a few thousand people at a World Science Fiction Convention ( WorldCon ).
