Advice for New Costumers
by Janet Anderson
My advice to beginners in addition to:
-
Love it.
-
Do it for fun.
-
Learn everything you can.
-
Don't be afraid to screw up.
I would add that 99% of problems can be avoided if you:
-
Make a mock-up first (garments).
-
Make a sample first (trims/embellishments).
-
Make a test run (any new materials/techniques).
-
Don't wait till the last minute to try it on for the first time!
-
Wear comfortable shoes.
And remember, to paraphrase Oscar Wilde:
"Costuming is too important to be taken seriously!"
